Reading- As small, individual groups, the students are completing a book report for Wringer by Jerry Spinelli or The Castle in the Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop.
----> Wringer- It is the story of a boy living in a small town, which hosts an annual Family Fest. Young boys, like Palmer, become a wringer on their tenth birthday, which Palmer dreads because of the horror of wringing innocent pigeon's necks which are only wounded, not killed, from the gunshots.
---->The Castle in the Attic- A young boy named William receives a castle, which is in his attic, from his nanny before she returns back to England. William discovers the magic of the castle and finds himself off on a fantastic quest to another land, where he encounters an evil wizard and a fiery dragon.

+ Greek & Latin Root Words - this week and next week, the students will be focussing on the prefixes "medi-" and "semi-". These words mean in the middle, half, and in between. Remember, Greek and Latin roots help students connect new and unfamiliar words to words that they know and understand.
Spelling- Each week, the fifth grade students will be assigned various tasks relating to their weekly word list. Their daily spelling task schedule is listed below. The students will be given time to complete assigned tasks in the morning and at different times throughout the day.
